World Mental Health Day
Hi everyone, John Schulte from Catholic Charites ministry St. Francis Community Services. October 10th is World Mental Health Day. I want to share a little bit of work that we do in mental health as well.
We have two counselors that work with kids in the schools. We have two counselors that work with adults. And today I want to share a story about the counselors that work with adults.
We have one woman that we’ve been helping because of the anguish that that takes place during a transition from an old country to a new country. We’ve been helping her through that crisis, but during it, she also received a cancer diagnosis, which shook her world. So, not only have we been counseling her, but we’ve also had our counselor and a colleague visit with her in her home. The purpose of that was to help her find resources, but really just be a face of someone who cares in the community to help her through that. Another really great part of the story is that the folks that she was in counseling group with also came to her aid, and those women began showing up and providing her the support that she needs.
Building the sense of community is what St. Francis Community Service is all about. It’s about providing dignity and hope to others. Thank you for all that you do to help us impact the people’s lives the way we do. helping people through cancer journeys and helping them strengthen their mental health so that they can live a much stronger life. Again, thanks for all you do, and I look forward to seeing you next month.
