Congratulations to Thelma Hubbard, who was presented with St. Francis Community Services’ first ever Sr. Betty Brucker, FSM Memorial Scholarship on March 8th, 2016. This scholarship provides assistance to an individual of limited means who has displayed dedication to serving the community and is studying to advance his/her career in the healthcare sector. Thelma has worked with low income seniors for many years as an LPN and will be completing her RN degree in December.
The namesake of this scholarship, Sr. Betty Brucker, was a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. She passed in June 2015 after serving the community for over six decades. She led St. Mary’s Health Center for 16 years, worked to establish important community initiatives, and was instrumental in founding St. Francis Community Services programs that, still today, serve individuals in need in the Archdiocese. As tireless advocate for the poor, Sr. Betty’s work and compassion touched countless lives.
A special thanks to National Catholic Sisters Week of St. Catherine University for providing funding to make this year’s scholarship possible. Additional thanks to SSM St. Mary’s Hospital for providing event space for the scholarship presentation ceremony.
