Monica called our office concerned about her two nieces, Jaden and Dani. Their mother had recently died, and even though she had children of her own Monica wanted to raise her sister’s kids so they could have a stable life. She knew she would need to petition for guardianship to prevent the children from going into foster care, but she was unsure of how to navigate the court system on our own.
Building a New Family
Positive Outcome
St. Francis’ attorney walked Monica through the guardianship process, advocating for this family at every turn. When Monica was concerned about attending her video court appearance because of an unstable home internet, her attorney located space at the public library so she wouldn’t have to stress during the appointment. This family successfully petitioned for guardianship, and while they are still grieving the death of their family member, they are doing so together.
